In April, the Will County State's Attorney's Office reached a plea agreement with James "Jim" Hess, who was represented by Joliet criminal attorneys Ed Masters and Jeff Tomczak of The Tomczak Law Group. Over two years ago, 29-year-old Nathan Hofkamp was released from a downstate prison, and his family celebrated his parole with a small party at the Minooka home of his mother's boyfriend, James Hess.
The gathering involved alcohol, and within twelve hours, Hofkamp was fatally shot in the chest by Hess, who was not intoxicated at the party, according to court testimony. On Thursday afternoon, during the second-degree murder sentencing before Will County Circuit Judge David Carlson, the 67-year-old Minooka resident walked free from the Will County Courthouse.
